Being Practically Creative

Do you incorporate something creative into most days? Share what you're doing or what you did today. Maybe you'll inspire someone else...

Today I added to a big doodle I started last night, using tips from the doodling discussion here. I really like it! I also worked on some writing.

What did you do?

Today I decoupaged some. I haven't decoupaged in a while, this is my second recent project. I plan to put these in the serving tray (behind). The serving tray will be used as art and hung up on the wall.

This work is very emotive stuff... takes me straight back to my grandmother's house and her photo archives... twenty years ago at least!

To me decoupage is layers of small images cut out in detail and built up in layers of three or more of the same. This interests me much more.

Keep the photos coming in - great to see your work.

Alas I am working on a dissertation and my artwork is on 'standby'. :-(

Thanks. It is funny that you say decoupage is layers. The ovals have 3 layers. The green layer is tissue paper, the pink strip is tissue paper and the card on top. And of course then I had to make it even more complicated, because that is just me.

Well... complicated or not - this is wacky, fun, modern but at the same time traditional - intriguing!

Okay, I've been SO creative today. Not the first creativity of the summer by any means...but so varied that I decided to put it in writing.

This morning, I finished a short story that I've been mostly thinking about for a couple of YEARS. Geez. It was hard to write for a number of reasons but I finally had a reason and a deadline (though that isn't for two whole weeks!) so I got it done. I'm letting it rest before I edit but it's close to the word limit and I know I can make it better. What a relief though to finally just finish it and get it out there and to do my first real writing of the summer!

THEN, I started playing around with mosaics. This is a summer project that I've almost waited too long to start. But last week I got a lot of supplies to add to my stash of "tesserae" (mosaic bits and pieces and my newest favourite word). I'm having Sherry and kids over to play with me once they can find a free day to do it but I decided to do a small project today to get the feel of it. It's a narrow wooden sign that says "Welcome" in shards of cobalt blue china. I finally chose buttons for the background. So far the stuff's just glued on. No grout yet.

We'll see how buttons do with grout around them...I'm not at all sure it's going to work very well but that's what I want to learn. What works and what doesn't. I'm sure it will be cute even if it's not perfect.

I'll post photos as soon as I finish it.

A creative day! Yay!

I really enjoyed your 'flight of fancy' creations. Lovely!

I am hoping to become creative again very soon.

Hope to hear from you again in the meantime.

Hi everyone!

I'm super busy these days but I'm doing it "all" from the comfort of (one of) my desk chairs because I broke a bone in my left foot a little over two weeks ago. My advice: Don't do it! It's a major disruption!

Still, I've been writing, editing, photoshopping and sewing (and haven't been cooking, cleaning, and grocery shopping), so life is still pretty darned good.

Today I did what I hope is a final edit on a short story that is going in an anthology that myself and two friends/colleagues are publishing. We're trying to get this book out in time for Christmas so it's full speed ahead!

I also did work today on designs for the cover of the book. It's all fun and very creative!

What are you up to these days?
