How many times have I been a participant in this scenario? Person asks question in a group. Weeks or months later someone stumbles upon question with a response which includes, oh sorry, just noticed this question!
It happens for all of us, and it would be so nice to have a feature which would alert us when there is some activity in a specific area of the site, without us having to check each day/week/moment.
IT EXISTS.
I've been using this tool for a couple of months, and am just now setting it up for the groups in Being Practically Creative. It is a service from NBC-Universal called
SendMeRSS.com. I blogged the process in June at http://www.bethspeak.com/2008/06/email-me-please.html. But here is the BPC method. After signing up for a free account at sendmerss.com, you need to find the "feed url" of the group or BPC area you are interested in. I'm going to use my group,
Virtual World Creating. Go to the gorup page, look under the Discussion forum box, right next to start new discussion, and click on the RSS button. See the new url, "http://practicallycreative.ning.com/group/vwcreativity/forum/topic/list?feed=yes&xn_auth=no" --that is it. Copy, open up sendmerss.com and paste in. That is it. Anytime a new discussion or comment in a discussion is posted you get an email (daily or weekly, depending how you set up the sendmerss account.)
Peace,
Beth
